Voormalig wereldkampioen Ray Wilson (83) overleden

Ray Wilson is op 83-jarige leeftijd overleden. De voormalig linksback werd in 1966 wereldkampioen met Engeland. Wilson leed al geruime tijd aan Alzheimer. 

Wilson deed mee in de WK-finale op Wembley tegen West-Duitsland, dat na verlenging met 4-2 werd verslagen. Hij speelde tussen 1960 en 1968 liefst 63 interlands, waarin hij niet tot scoren kwam.

Wilson kwam in clubverband uit voor Huddersfield Town (266 duels), Everton (116 duels), Oldham Athletic (25 duels) en Bradford City (2 duels). Bij die laatste club werd hij in 1971 ook nog even trainer. In 1966 won hij met Everton ook nog de FA Cup, zijn enige prijs als clubvoetballer.
